Photoshop tutorial
LEARN THE BASICS OF PHOTOSHOP:
Learning the basics is the most important and the easiest
task that you can accomplish with lots of practice. Only then you will be able
to jump on advance level.
What do you mean by basics?
Basic means learning
the software and the tools used in Photoshop you need to know how to edit, cut,
filling colors and how to add special effect.
What is the use of Photoshop?
Photoshop is used for editing words and images.
What is the carrier scope for Photoshop?
Photoshop itself is a vast field which is used in
designing. Photoshop is used in e-commerce for editing the images.
Basics of Photoshop: basic
drawing with the pen tool
Pen tool is the most important tool, In Photoshop which
is used for cutting the images from a background.
This pen tool is very powerful; this pen tool creates dots
and automatically connects them in specific ways based on a number of factors.
Pen tool involves clicking around the Photoshop canvas to
make points appear. These points will be connected by lines and start to create
shape.
·
If you hold down the shift key before
creating a point, it’ll ensure that this line is straight or forms a perfect 45
degree angle (depending on where you attempt to place your next point.)
This is fine for drawing simple and rough shapes but if
we want curve and more unique shapes we need to do some extra work
· Start off by creating a point on your canvas with pen tool now create a second point but don’t let go. Hold down and drag and you will see curve start to appear holding down shift will create perfect angles and help you make a more even curves (if that’s what you want).
·
When you will create points, you’ll see two
lines flying out from the point those lines each have balls at the end and if
you drag those balls it affects one side of the curve one line should already
be touching the curves and one shouldn’t, the line that’s not touching the
curves is the one that will have an effect on next point you make. You can
alter it immediately by holding down the option key or by pressing ctrl+alt+z.
·
Click on the ball at the end of the line and
drag that ball where you want it . the longer the line ,the more restrictive it
will be on your next curve. The angle it creates will also have a dramatic
effect on the curve.
Smaller angles will help you create
sharper edges. Wider angles will help you create rounder ones. Go ahead and
give it a try to get an idea of how thing works.
If you are having trouble getting pen
tool to do what you want, one thing that can help is the grid. You can turn on
the grid by going to the view menu and choosing grid from the Show sub-menu. The
grid can make a lot easier to see what you are doing and snap to the right
points try using it while drawing an easy shape like heart. The grid makes
those kinds of shapes much easier to draw
Day: 2
Move tool:
Move tool is the easiest tool
and its only function is to drag images from its original place.
For dragging an image just
double click and grab and don’t leave, and now move the image where you want to
place that image
The shortcut key is (v).
Lasso tool:
Lasso tool is used for cutting
an image from a background it’s kind of same working as pen tool
The shortcut key is (L)
·
Photoshop’s polygonal lasso tool,
another of its basic selections tool, is a bit like a cross between the regular
marquee tool and the standard lasso tool, both of which we looked at in
previous tutorials it allows us to easily draw free form selection outlines
based on straight –sided polygonal shapes. But while the rectangular
marquee tool limits us to drawing
4-sided polygons(rectangular or squares)the polygonal lasso tool lets us draw
as many sides as we need, with as much freedom as the lasso tool gives us to
move in any direction we need!
·
By default, the polygonal lasso tool is
hiding behind the standard lasso tool in the tools panel. To get to it click on
the lasso tool, then hold your mouse button down until a fly-out menu appears
showing you the additional tools that are available. Select the polygonal lasso
tool from the list:
The polygonal lasso tool is hiding
behind the standard lasso tool in the tools panel
Once you’ve selected the
polygonal lasso tool, it will appear in place of the standard lasso tool in the
tools panel. To switch back to the lasso tool later, click and hold on the
polygonal lasso tool tool, then select the lasso tool from the fly out menu:
Whichever of the three lasso
tools you have selected last will appear in the tools panel. Select the others
from the fly-out menu.
You can cycle through Photoshop’s
three different lasso tools (lasso tool, polygonal lasso tool and the magnetic
lasso tool,) by holding down your shift key and pressing the letter (L) repeatedly.
Drawing straight –sided
polygonal selections:
Drawing selections with the
polygonal lasso tool is a lot like drawing straight –sided paths with the pen
tool begin by clicking somewhere along the edge of the object or area you need
to select, then release your mouse button. This adds a point, commonly called an
anchor or fastening point, to the document. As you move the polygonal lasso tool
away from the point, you’ll see a thin straight line extending out from your
mouse cursor, looking a bit like a spider weaving a web, with the other end of
the line attached to the anchor point. Click again to add a second point,
then release your mouse button the line
will become “fastened” to the new point, with both point now joined together by
the straight line continue moving around the object or area, clicking to add a
new point anywhere where the line needs to change direction, fastening the end of
the line to each new point as you go along. Unlike the standard lasso tool, as
well as many of Photoshop’s other selection tools, there’s no need to keep your
mouse button held down as you move from point to point. Simply click to add a
point, release your mouse button, move to the next spot where the line needs to
change directions, and then click to add a new point
Click to add points around the
object area where you need the lines to change the directions
Once you’ve made your way around
the object or area, complete the selection by clicking once again on the
initial point you added. Photoshop will convert all of the straight lines into
a selection outline. A small circle will appear in the bottom right corner of
the cursor icon when you’re close enough to the initial point to complete the
selection. I’ve enlarged things here to make the circle easier to see:
A small circle appears in the bottom right of the cursor icon
when you’re close enough to the initial point to complete the selection.
You can also close a selection
simply by double-clicking anywhere with the polygonal lasso tool. Photoshop
will automatically close the selection with a straight line from the point you
clicked on to your initial point you clicked on to your initial starting point.
Here’s is a photo in which I
want to add a photo, which means I’ll first need to select it.
A blank billboard
At first galance, you may think
why not use rectangular marquee tool so why bother with the polygonal lasso
tool
You can also try.
Attempting to select the billboard with the rectangular marquee tool
As we can see, even though the
billboard probably would appear rectangular to us if we were standing directly
in front of it, the angled perspective of the photo is distorting its shape,
and the rectangular marquee tool ends up doing a rather lousy job of selecting
it.
Press ctrl+d (win) or ctrl+alt+d to alter any selection
Now try selecting the billboard with the polygonal
lasso tool
I will start selecting the billboard by clicking
the left corner and release my mouse button. This sets my initial starting
point for the selection. I’ll move to the top right corner and click to add a
second point. Photoshop joins the two points together with a thin straight
line. Follow the same process and join
all the four points.
Clicking in each of the four courner with the
polygonal lasso tool beginning with the top left and moving clockwise
I f you ,make any mistake just press ctrl+alt+D and
try again make the correct selection
when you finish just press enter to
activate the selection.
Polygonal
lasso tool made it easy to make selection around billboard
Now, after making the selection choose an image you
want to add in the selection like, I have selected this image.
I will press ctrl+A to quickly select the image,
then ctrl+C to copy the image. Now, go to the menu at the top of the screen in
edit select the paste into option
Photoshop’s
paste into command allows us to paste an image directly into a selection
This places the second photo directly into the
selection, and after a little re-sizing with Photoshop’s free transformation
command, the image appears on the billboard for all to see
Be larger than your life
Day 3
Magic Wand Tool (W):
Clicking with the magic wand tool creates a selection on the image. The selection depends on the tolerance setting located on the options bar as well as the contiguous check box.
With each click of the magic wand tool Photoshop takes a range of color variations based upon the tolerance setting. All pixels that lie within the color range will be selected.
Additional shift+clicking will add more and more to the selection based upon each new pixel clicked.
Magic Wand Selection:
Sometimes selecting the background pixel color and then using the select inverse command Ctrl+Shift+I or Command+Shift+I will achieve better results than selecting the object directly.
Magic Wand Extraction:
A magic wand selection is unpredictable, use of the undo command Ctrl+Alt+Z or Command+Option+Z comes in handy. If a selection goes haywire, just undo it and try again.
The first four icons decide whether or not each new selection is added or subtracted to the previous selection. Additionally, shift+clicking or alt+clicking - option+clicking for the mac, will add or subtract selections with the magic wand tool.
The tolerance field sets the range of pixels to be selected. A high tolerance will open up the color range a great deal selecting a broad range of pixels based on the pixel color that is clicked. A low tolerance setting restricts the color range allowance creating smaller, precise selections.
The Anti-Aliased check box creates smoother outlines, blending the selection into the background color as the selection is extracted.
The Contiguous check box relates to how the new selection behaves. A contiguous selection will select the entire range of pixels based the tolerance setting and the physical location of the pixels. Having this option checked means that only the pixels that lie next to each other (contiguous) will be selected. Un checking this box means any and all pixels that lie in the color range will be selected regardless of where they appear on the canvas.
The Use all Layers box indicates that each layer of the project will be taken into consideration when a magic wand tool selection is made.
Magic Wand Options Bar:
Photoshop - crop tool - c
Use the crop tool in Photoshop to crop down an image. Trim away portions of a photo that you may not particularly like and focus on the section of the image that you want to highlight. Select the crop tool from the Tool Bar by pressing C.
Drag a selection with the crop tool just as you would the marquee tools. Use the space bar and shift keys to drag and shape the rectangle about the canvas. Once you have a selection you are happy with, press enter to crop the rest of the picture away.
Crop Away!:
Photoshop - crop tool options bar
The arrow by the icon for the crop tool drops down into a list of common picture sizes. Use these if you plan on printing the image and framing it in a standard frame.
Crop Tool Presets:
While these presets offer a precise means to crop an image down to the desired size. This tool does not solve the problem of reducing the size of an entire image. Photoshop does have a solution to this problem, you may change the entire size of an image by clicking on the Image menu at the top of the screen and selecting the Image Size... option.
Use the vacant input boxes as a means to specify your own dimensions and resolution. Resolution has to do with the quality of the image, set a higher resolution to increase picture quality. Be aware that increasing a resolution of an image also increases the file size of that image - not so super for web developers.
Crop Tool Option Bar:
photoshop - crop tool second options bar
After dragging and dropping a crop. Before pressing enter to confirm the cropping, another options bar appears at the top of the screen.
More Crop Tool Options:
photoshop - crop tool mouse work
Rotate the cropping by clicking behind one of the points and swinging your mouse about the canvas. Clicking on a point will allow you to additionally modify the size of the cropping.
Mouse Work:
Rotating the cropping as we've done above skewed the sphere creating more of a three dimensional oval - egg shape.
photoshop - pencil tool - b
The pencil tool is nothing more than a rip off from the brush tool. In fact all it really consists of is a 1 pixel brush tool tip. Nearly all the same options and tools are available to the Pencil tool as are available with the brush tool.
Access the pencil tool with the keyboard shortcut of B, you may be required to press shift+B as it is the secondary tool of the Brush Tool. Click and drag to paint the canvas, holding shift while dragging with the mouse forces the pencil tool to produce straight edges.
Another technique for this tool is the shift+click method. First click a point, then shift click another location on the canvas - connecting the dots together as you go.
Shift + Clicking:
Use this tool for small, precise applications. Creating a geometric shape such as a star as we have done is impractical since Photoshop can create several polygons with the Polygon Tool, however the animation above does demonstrate shift clicking fairly well.
photoshop - pencil tool options bar
If you have been following along most of this area is review. The brush tool contains very similar options for drawing on the canvas.
Access pencil tool presets by clicking the arrow to the right of the pencil tool icon at the top of the stage.
Pencil Tool Presets:
Up next lies the button for accessing brush tips and diameter settings.
Brush Tips and Diameter(s):
